Tips To Rock Your First Day

If you haven’t yet walked through the lucid, glass doors of the new job you’ve been obsessing about since that beloved acceptance email graced your inbox,, here are some tips to rock your first day!

Tick Tock

Punctuality is one of the biggest pet peeves in the book. Don’t assume you start at 9 AM. A few days prior to your start date, e-mail your internship coordinator and ask when you are expected to report to work. This will leave a great first impression because it shows you are a responsible worker eager to contribute to the company.

Dress to impress

Looks aren’t everything, but they do matter. Especially in a professional setting. Pull out your sleek black blazer and nude slingbacks, and dress to impress! Brush your hair back and feel like you are an intern superstar. Play dress-up the night before so you’re prepared (and it will also be tons of fun.) Not only will dressing the part give you confidence on your first day, it shows the company that you are a mature professional and who takes the job seriously.

Connect!

One, two, three, network! Your first day is the perfect opportunity to reach out to the other interns and employees in the company. Not only will this build your database of connections, the confidence of this action will impress your counterparts. You can do this by simply introducing yourself as well as handing out business cards.

Avoid hunger pains

Let’s be honest – you’re going to get hungry. Before you head out the door, throw a couple of snacks in your bag for that anticipated tummy rumble. You don’t know the lunch culture yet, so be prepared just in case.

Even if you’ve already started your internship, it’s never too late to start implementing these tips!

Good luck on your first day! You’re going to rock it!
