The Benefits of Interning Remotely
Sadly, not all of us get to travel to the city of dreams graced with glitz and glamour this summer for an internship at a big time company. But your hopes aren’t dead! There is an option that will get you an amazing experience with multiple benefits. What is this magical possibility I speak of? Interning remotely (a.k.a. virtually.) Thanks to modern technology taking over the world, it is now possible to intern through the stream of your laptop and wires of your phone. And this trend is catching on! Here are some of the benefits of a remote internship:
Cha-ching Cha-ching
We all want some money in the bank, especially during the heat of summer fun time. Traveling to a big city is a money sucker, having to pay for outlandish expenses and inflated prices. Interning remotely cost zero! This makes interning remotely a great way to get quality work experience and grow your savings (or splurge on a new bag.)
Here or there
What does remote entail? Options! Stuck in your hometown with dead-end possibilities? Working remotely allows you to intern for your dream NYC company while in the middle of nowhere.
But keep in mind that working in the comfort of your PJs can lead to a lazy mind set. Stay productive by changing your environment, move your home office to a coffee shop or a co-working space if you need to focus! Make sure to continue being proactive and go above and beyond the call of duty. Since you’re not physically with your boss, you want your work to stand out and make your presence known.
Scratch 9 to 5
Let’s be real – we all want to enjoy summer. From family vacays to pool parties, summer is the Disneyland of seasons. Being committed to an office environment may hinder summer fun, but working remotely allows for flexibility. You may have a set number of hours you need to work a week, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be 9 to 5. As long as the work gets done, fun is fair game!
Stay Connected
When you’re not going to an office every day and seeing your boss face-to-face, constant communication is key to the success of a remote internship. Check-in via email, or even propose a weekly update via phone call if your supervisor hasn’t already. Taking that extra step can go a long way!
Interning remotely is a great way to spend the summer, you get the best of both worlds!
